The
Indiana Soccer Foundation Golf Classic was held October 1, 2009 at the Woodwind
Country Club in Westfield, Indiana. The event raised $9,000 for
the Indiana Soccer Foundation which will be used to support Indiana Youth Soccer
programs including: Top Soccer, Olympic Development Program and Soccer Across
America.
Twelve
foursomes representing communities, clubs and businesses from across the state
gathered for a day of golf, fun and friendly competition.
Registration opened at 10:00 am where golfers enjoyed a box lunch
sponsored by G.I.R.L.S League. Participants then moved to the driving range at
10:30 am for some pre-game practice and to the putting contest sponsored by Avon
Sports Apparel.
The
Indiana Soccer Foundation Golf Classic officially kicked off at noon with a
shotgun scramble start. Dinner was held at the Woodwind Clubhouse and was
sponsored by Barnes & Thornburg and Superior Environmental Remediation 90,
Inc.
Indiana Soccer Foundation President Dean Vinten thanked event chair Larri
McClintock, sponsors and the volunteer staffing provided by G.I.R.L.S. League
and Indiana Youth Soccer.
A very special
thank you to Larri McClintock, the organizing committee and volunteers for a
very successful event and one that the Indiana Soccer Foundation is proud to see
return, said Vinten. Thank you also to all the players, sponsors and
supporters who made this event possible.
Awards
were given to the top two teams, and Solar Sources of Bloomington was named the
winning team. The last place team was also awarded complimentary golf lessons
courtesy of the Woodwind Country Club Golf Academy.
It
was a great day for a worthy cause and a good time was had by all, said Indiana
Youth Soccer Interim Executive Director Dave Guthrie. The light rain that fell
during the last two holes, dampened the course but was unable to dampen the
spirits and fun of those in attendance. A big thank you to all of the
participants, sponsors, and volunteers!
Events such as the Golf Classic support the Foundation's
continuing goal to help improve the lives of youth through sport, said Vinten.
The real benefactors will be the
children in the communities supported by Indiana Soccer Foundation
programming.
Formed in 1995, the Indiana Soccer Foundation is dedicated to
improving the lives of youth by enhancing, supporting and fostering soccer
related programs that focus on: lifelong values such as character, social
development, leadership and self-discipline and providing under-served youth
with equal opportunities through the identification and removal of
barriers.
