Hydration Survey

Indiana Soccer has partnered with Indiana State University for this online teaching module on hydration.

Beat the Heat: Be a Better Coach in Extreme Environmental Conditions

If you are interested in learning more about recognition and management of exertional heat illnesses, please access the following link http://columbia.indstate.edu/ehi/ . Upon entering the website you will be asked to participate in a series of evaluations and a teaching module. Not only is this a means for you to improve your knowledge of exertional heat illnesses, this is also a research project. We have collaborated with faculty and students at Indiana State University to help enhance other learning opportunities in the future. Data collected during your participation will help in the development process.

This research project is being conducted by Dr. Lindsey Eberman, Adam Simpson, and Madeline McGuire of Indiana State University. The objective of this research project is to attempt to understand coaches' knowledge and perceptions about exertional heat illnesses.

There are no known risks if you decide to participate in this research study, nor are there any costs for participating in the study. Although the direct information collected regarding perception may not benefit you directly, you will be exposed to the most current information regarding the prevention, recognition, and treatment of exertional heat illnesses.

This survey is confidential. There is no way to ensure full anonymity using the internet; however we will be using a secure password protected email address. This email address can only be accessed by the principle investigators for the purpose of collecting data. If you choose to participate, do not write your name on the questionnaire. No one will be able to identify you, nor will anyone be able to determine your place of employment. No one will know whether you participated in this study.

Your participation in this study is voluntary. If you choose to participate, please access the following link http://columbia.indstate.edu/ehi/ . Your responses to questions within the website will be emailed directly to a password protected email account. Only the researchers will have access to this information.

If you have any questions or concerns about completing the questionnaire or about being in this study, you may contact Dr. Eberman at (812) 237-7694 or at leberman@indystate.edu .

If you have any questions about your rights as a research subject, you may contact the Indiana State University Institutional Review Board (IRB) by mail at Indiana State University, Office of Sponsored Programs, Terre Haute, IN 47809, by phone at (812) 237-8217, or by e-mail at

Indiana Soccer "Community Stars" program announced for fall 2010

The "Stars" program will now offer two options for players between the ages of 8-14 to participate.

The Community Stars and Stripes Program runs every fall.  It usually begins in late August and runs through early November.  Indiana Soccer alongside colleges and universities throughout the state work together to provide an opportunity for players ages 8-14 and not in high school to work on different soccer skills. This program is in it's third year and some of the specifications change each year. The following synopsis is how the program will run in 2010.

The purpose of this program is:

1. To promote individual skill development for players 8-14 (not in high school)
2. To encourage players to practice on their own. The coaches will focus on how each player can develop in each of these four skills at home.
3. To promote college and university soccer programs throughout the state of Indiana so that players can see soccer at a higher level.

This program is open to any child between the ages and 8 and 14 and not in high school.  There will be two ways for a player to participate in the "Stars and Stripes" program.

Option 1-College/High School Clinics

Attend 4 college/high school matches and particpate in all of the clinics that are set up by each college/high school program.

These skills sessions take place at participating college campuses throughout the state of Indiana. Each college/university or high school soccer program that is participating will select 2-4 days/nights for players to come and work on a different skill each time. These sessions will take place either before or after one of their matches. The four skills that will be focused on are: Dribbling, Juggling, Receiving, and Passing.

Each skill session will be conducted by the college or high school's coaching staff possibly with the help of their players or a member of Indiana Soccer's ODP coaching staff. These mini clinics are approximately 45 minutes in length. The sole purpose of these sessions are to teach players how to get better at the four skills listed above when they are at home.

Option 2-College/High School observation and self-training.

"Stars"-Attend any 2 college/high school soccer matches (could be any program around the state) and write an observation report.  Please see link below  AND
"Stripes"-Complete the Stripes Skills program either at home or with your coach.  There are 5 skills included in the "Stripes" Self-Training Program.  These are: Dribbling, Juggling, Passing, Receiving, and Shooting. There are also video examples of how to set up and practice at home or with your coach.

Players must pre-register for these sessions on the Indiana Soccer website. Dates will go up about 4-6 weeks before the season begins.  Some dates may be added throughout the season as each high school or college decides to participate.

For more information on how to participate and the schools involved, go to the Indiana Soccer website.
